The Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans was the brainchild of the famous
18C architect and visionary, Claude-Nicolas Ledoux. The complex is now
World heritage listed by UNESCO and constitutes a unique contribution
to the history of industrial architecture.

Salt is central to the history of Salins. The saltworks, a veritable underground cathedral, have been transformed into a museum.
