Pasteur spent his childhood from 1830 to 1839 in this house and came back regulary for holidays throughout his life. After his father died in 1865, Pasteur gradually bought the family's tannery and transformed it into this cosy and comfortable house where he liked to stay, surrounded by his family.
With its exceptional late 19th century interior decoration (wallpaper, furniture, tapestries, ornaments) which has been restored by the French Academy of Sciences in 1995, Louis Pasteur's house is a sanctuary where the spirit of the great scientist still lingers, at the billiard table as well as in the laboratory.
